Our campaigns

Big BenCampaigning has great potential to help us in our vision that together we will beat cancer. From smokefree workplaces to improved cancer screening programmes we campaign on a wide range of cancer related issues.

Cancer is a political issue, and political action really does save lives.

Below are details of some of our key past and present campaigns. Join us today!

Take Action

Plain Packet from AustraliaSign our petition to help protect children from tobacco marketing by putting all cigarettes in standardised, unbranded packs. Plain packs won’t stop everyone from smoking but they will give millions of kids one less reason to start. But it will only happen if you make it happen. Take action now.

Our Previous Campaigns

Speech-bubbles with "A Voice for Radiotherapy"Campaign update: On 3 November we went to Number 10 Downing Street with a few of our amazing Cancer Campaigns Ambassadors, to hand in over 36,000 signatures calling for improvements in radiotherapy services. Find out more about the campaign and see pictures from the day here

Commit to beat cancer RHNCampaign update. 246 candidates in the devolved assembly elections in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have signed the Cancer Commitment to support measures to beat cancer across the UK! Thanks to everyone who emailed their candidates. See which candidates signed up on our Commit to Beat Cancer pages.

Tobacco display in shopCampaign update! On Wednesday 9 March the Government announced its new tobacco control plan, giving dates when tobacco displays in shops will be taken down, and that they are taking the first steps to strip the attractive packaging from cigarettes. Read more

Commit to beat cancer RHNIn the run up to the 2010 general election our supporters worked hard to ensure that cancer was a priority for all Parliamentary Candidates. 4,612 people emailed their candidates to ask them to sign up to our 5 asks. An amazing 1,034 candidates took the pledge and 264 of them are now sitting MPs! We also held a very successful Westminster lobby in November 2010, where over 70 Cancer Campaigns Ambassadors took the campaign to MPs in Westminster Palace. The lobby had two calls to improve the early diagnosis of cancer and we're delighted to say that both of these were met. To all of you who took part, thank you!

SunbedsUsing a sunbed before the age of 35 increases the risk of cancer by 75 per cent, so we campaigned to protect vulnerable sunbed users from this risk. We are delighted to confirm that the Sunbed Bill has now become law. The Sunbeds Act (as it will now be known) will restrict the use of sunbeds to over 18s in England and Wales (Scotland already has this legislation), and a generation of our children will be protected from the damage they can cause. A huge thank you goes out to all those who emailed their MPs on this issue.

Smokefree Workplaces campaign

Cigarette packet warningsIn early 2006, our Smokefree Workplaces campaign resulted in MPs voting for a historic change in the law: comprehensive legislation ending smoking in all workplaces in England.

This legislation will save around 600 lives a year.

Cancer 2020 - planning for the future of cancer

Our Cancer 2020 campaign called on politicians in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to plan for the cancer challenges ahead.

Screening Matters - cancer screening saves lives

Our Screening Matters campaign called on politicians to get more people into cancer screening programmes across the UK and to make sure the programmes are as good as they can be.
